Apologies for the limited activity on this site
at the end of 2015 - this was due to a combination of ongoing site
reconstruction and the need for a hiatus to work on the new musical
act.
The site is going to shift onto a new platform in due course, so please bare with us while the terrible transformation takes shape...
The Demon Gin started life as a humour and lifestyle blog. Then, in 2016, it evolved into a music act.
Here's all you need to know....
ABOUT THE MUSIC
What's The Demon Gin?
The Demon Gin is a fledgling musical trio, performing original songs and tunes that combine elements of roots, dark folk, musical theatre and cabaret.
Rumour has it that the trio first met many years ago in an asylum for the insane. No one knows how they came to be there, or why they left. But their tall tales and tunes are sure to both entertain and shudder you.
The band is just getting started, but we have plenty of twisted fun planned so please check the gigs page for updates. DON'T ask them about the judge's room.
Who is in the band?
Sinead Hanna (lead singer/songwriter)
Ben Holliday (acoustic guitar, mandolin)
Greg Ireland (vocals, mandolin, clarinet, percussion)
What sort of music do you play?
Our musical style is macabre roots, dark folk and grim cabaret. We play original songs and some trad tunes that channel elements of roots, folk, musical theatre, cabaret and vaudeville – all with a strong emphasis on performance and storytelling.
The songs are inspired by folklore and urban legends, literature, and historic crimes, as well as traditional folk music, musical theatre, blues, and gypsy jazz.
How did the band start?
The band was born in 2016 when the voices in Sinead's head took over. The trio first joined forces many years ago when they all housed in the same asylum together but not because they were mad, really they weren't they're not, not insane. They aren't.
Greg and Ben are both masters of multiple instrument and have been playing music together for more than 12 years. They are also are members of the highly successful folk rock group Green Diesel www.greendieselfolk.com.
Sinead is an established performer, singer and writer, and a member of The Canterbury Players am dram group. She once saw rat battle a fox.
Why is this called The Demon Gin?
The Demon Gin persona was created by Sinead, and has naturally
evolved into a macabre music act. And because all the other names we
could think of were taken. And because anyone who has seen Sinead
sitting on the stairs at a party will know why gin is synonymous with
her exploits. What is the judge's room?
There is no judges room.
